Regenerating collagen face masks
with hyalurone
What is collagen?
Collagen is a structural protein and a key organic component of connective tissue (or, to be more precise, the extra-cellular matrix) and skin. It is also found in bone, tooth, cartilage, sinew and ligament. Its principle function in skin is to provide elasticity and strength.
What are the reasons for collagen breakdown in skin cells – and the consequences?
One of the main reasons for our skin becoming wrinkled and losing tone, elasticity and suppleness is a loss of collagen, which controls the skin‘s moisture content and cell renewal at a regular rhythm. As we go through life, but especially if we are beset by stress and illness or exposed to aggressive environmental influences, the collagen fibrils harden and cell renewal slows. Collagen production can also be disrupted by constant over-exertion, e.g. in the form of physical activity and competitive sports.
What is the effect of collagen in a face mask?
On application, the collagen in the face mask begins to penetrate the skin‘s cells. It forms a matrix of proteins that helps foster the new collagen produced by fibroblasts. It also promotes the binding of water and lipophilic substances.
Can collagen lead to allergic reactions?
The probability of an allergic reaction to natural collagen is, owing to its make-up, negligible; no such reactions have been reported to date. People with protein allergies should, however, not use collagen face masks.
